My Philosophy

I believe that the purpose of education is to provide a good foundation for our students’ futures and to help them further grow mentally, physically, emotionally, and socially. I aim to create an atmosphere where my students will be able to thrive and meet their full potential. I will provide a safe environment where my students will feel comfortable coming to me and their peers for assistance. In order to do so, I would like to provide students with the vocabulary and confidence to be able to express their emotions.

I believe that my role as an elementary teacher is to help build confidence and encourage the lifelong learning of my students.  I want my students to have a positive and stimulating learning environment. I plan to incorporate activities that will keep my students engaged and allow them to make their own choices. This would include turning my students into self-sufficient learners and to use their resources to figure an answer out first instead of resorting to asking for help. I plan to seat students into groups, to allow for more collaboration. I personally feel like social interaction is helpful in students' development and transition into the next chapter of their lives. This goes along with Vygotsky’s Sociocultural Theory of human learning. His theory talks about how social interaction plays a fundamental role in children’s development (Cherry, 2022).

In my classroom, I want to incorporate Daniel Goleman’s Emotional Intelligence theory by giving my students the vocabulary they need to express themselves and understand their emotions (Wallbridge, 2021). I believe that if we as educators help our students understand their emotions they will grow up to be more confident adults. I also believe that learners have to be able to recall material in order to understand, analyze, and apply it later on. I want to provide my students with tasks that guide them toward understanding the objectives. This goes along with Bloom’s Taxonomy (Armstrong, 2010).

My goal is to teach my students that they can accomplish amazing things. I also want to learn from my students and continue to grow from my experiences as a teacher.  No matter what stage we are at in life, we will always be learning. I want my students to show kindness and become leaders and mentors. Most of all, I would like to guide my students into becoming the best version of themselves.
