InTASC Standard #3: Learning Environments

The teacher works with others to create environments that support individual and collaborative learning, and that encourage positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation. (InTASC 2013)

Brief Description of Evidence:

During the fall semester of 2022, I created a Bitmoji Classroom in my EDUC 101 Introduction to Teaching class. A Bitmoji Classroom is a virtual classroom that teachers create to give students and parents/guardians access to information on what’s going on in the classroom. It also provides students with links to different educational resources. Some of the links include Class Dojo, I-Ready, EPIC!, Khan Academy, and Accelerated Reader. I plan to add more links once I have my own classroom. My Bitmoji Classroom has a welcome page, an about me page, daily announcements, daily assignments, classroom rules, and a resource page.

Analysis of What I Learned:

While creating my Bitmoji Classroom I learned how to navigate Google slides and how to link websites onto my slides. I also learned how to put the resources I think my students would need in a format they will be able to use. I can use my Bitmoji Classroom to help keep students and parents informed of upcoming assignments and events. This is a way for the parents to be involved in my classroom.  I learned how to create different kinds of environments so that all of my students feel comfortable and welcome in my classroom. I want my students to be able to express themselves and let their creativity shine.

How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the InTASC Standard:

I demonstrate my competence for InTASC Standard #3 because my students will be able to have positive interactions with their peers and parents by collaborating and exploring my Bitmoji Classroom together. The students will be able to communicate with me about how they felt about my Bitmoji Classroom, so I know if I need to change anything to make it easier to navigate for them. The students will be able to navigate through my Bitmoji Classroom to find resources, their daily assignments, and announcements. I have provided them with multiple different websites that they can use to help them excel in the classroom, this helps promote self-motivation. Along with this, my Bitmoji Classroom helps promote active engagement by taking a creative approach to learning.  I want my Bitmoji classroom to be able to motivate my students to work hard, be confident, and be creative. When I have my own classroom, I would like to have my students create their own ‘Virtual Cubby’ or about me page so that way we can all get to know each other. A theorist that relates to my artifact is Joan Hughes and her RAT Model. The RAT Model states that “...digital technology can be used as replacement, amplification, or transformation in the classroom” (Lynch). My Bitmoji Classroom can help amplify and transform learning in my classroom. Not only does it provide information about our class but it gives students resources to help them problem solve and learn new things.
